Our Tasks

District Planning and Promotion

• Foundational work on district planning, particularly in overarching framework planning (regional plan) as well as in the commercial, residential, and traffic development of the Oberbergischer Kreis
• Planning supervision of municipal land-use planning
• Professional collaboration in the spatial information system of the Oberbergischer Kreis (rio.obk.de)
• Preparation and coordination of funding applications for district planning, active participation in competitive processes at the state, federal, and EU levels

 
Climate – Environment – Nature Oberberg (KUNO)

• Collaboration with the KUNO coordination offices and Renewable Energies on:
• Updating/advancing the program
• Implementing measures in the fields of habitats, biodiversity, climate protection, and climate change adaptation
• Climate change adaptation concept
• Renewable energies

 
Nature Conservation Planning and Landscape Development

• Preparation and amendment procedures for landscape plans
• Coordination of protection, maintenance, and development measures
• Protective designation procedures
• Nature conservation statistical records/registers
• Representation of nature conservation and landscape maintenance interests in various planning procedures

 
Cultural Landscape Development

• Promotion of biodiversity
• Maintenance of special protection areas and legally protected biotopes in collaboration with the Oberberg Biological Station
• Oberberg Cultural Landscape Program (OKuLa) – Contract-based nature conservation

Forestry in District-Owned Forests

• Sustainable, ecological forest management
• Preservation of a diverse mixed forest culture
• Maintaining a recreational and leisure area

 
Mobility – Public Transport (ÖPNV)

• Planning, design, and organization of public transport in the Oberbergischer Kreis
• Preparation/updating of the local transport plan for the Oberbergischer Kreis as well as coordination with neighboring public transport authorities
• Participation and co-financing in the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Rheinland and Zweckverband VRS

 
Bicycle Mobility

• Coordination and participation in the planning of regional bicycle route projects (Bicycle Region Rhineland, Agger-Sülz Bicycle Route)
• Bicycle counting stations
• CITY CYCLING

 
Mobility Management

• Mobility concept: Promotion and conceptual development of integrated and sustainable mobility solutions
• Collaboration with regional stakeholders

 
Regional Development

• Focus areas for the sustainable development of the Oberbergischer Kreis as a region where people enjoy living and working
• Management and support of projects – from conception to implementation in collaboration with regional partners
• Implementation of projects within the REGIONALE 2025 framework
• Support and assistance for LEADER regions

 
Eco-Model Region

• Strengthening organic farming in the Bergisches RheinLand
• Joint project with Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and Rhein-Sieg-Kreis

Our Performance in Numbers

• Updating landscape planning (currently 12 plans)
• Maintenance and care of approximately 5,000 hectares of nature conservation areas
• Promotion of approximately 1,900 hectares of agricultural land within the framework of contract-based nature conservation
• Management of approximately 1,000 hectares of forest
• Contact point for 1,441 villages in the Oberbergischer Kreis
• Planning and financing of approximately 9.5 million timetable kilometers per year with 900 public transport stops
