District Administration

The district administration of the Oberbergischer Kreis takes on numerous tasks that directly affect the lives of people in the region. Our employees work daily to make the Oberbergischer Kreis a livable, safe, and future-proof place. Many tasks are consolidated across the district because they go beyond the borders of individual cities and municipalities. Thus, the district administration is the contact point for many aspects of daily life – from youth and social issues to health and mobility, as well as environment, safety, and education.

The district administration ensures that numerous public services are reliably provided and actively supports the development of the district area. Many people come into direct or indirect contact with the offerings and responsibilities of the district administration in their everyday lives – often from birth to old age.

The Oberbergischer Kreis takes on tasks that individual cities and municipalities cannot or should not handle on their own. Many issues need to be organized and coordinated uniformly across municipal boundaries. These include areas such as social assistance, health, civil protection, environmental and nature conservation, road traffic, building inspection, or youth welfare. At the same time, the district supports the municipalities belonging to the district and takes on important coordinating functions.

As the administration of the district, the district administration is also a state authority and carries out numerous statutory tasks. Additionally, it exercises oversight over the cities and municipalities within the district area. The district administrator stands at the head of the district administration. He is elected every five years by the citizens of the Oberbergischer Kreis and leads the administration.
