Our Tasks

Fire Safety Authority

• Defensive fire protection (participation in building supervisory procedures to consider the interests of fire departments)
• Conducting fire inspections and recurring reviews

 
The task of the fire safety authority is to prevent the occurrence, spread, and impact of fires in advance. Through its preventive activities, this department makes an important contribution to protecting the population from harm caused by fire and smoke.
 
Fire and Rescue Control Center

• Receiving emergency calls
• Dispatching, alerting, and coordinating fire and rescue operations
• Other assistance requests (animal rescue, oil spill cleanup, etc.)

 
The fire and rescue control center (emergency number 112) dispatches all incoming emergency calls in the areas of emergency rescue, public qualified patient transport, and the fire department. It is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year, with four dispatchers who are trained in both fire protection and emergency services.

Whether a medical emergency or a fire, depending on the need, the emergency service and/or the locally responsible fire department is alerted. All rescue and fire operations are coordinated and supported from here until the necessary help is ensured.

Civil Protection and Population Safety

• Emergency and hazard response planning
• Ensuring and maintaining public basic services (such as gas, water, and electricity supply)
• Maintaining disaster relief units

 
Civil protection in the Oberbergischer Kreis covers various areas of hazard response. Here, tasks of disaster management, civil protection, civil defense, and emergency preparedness are planned, prepared, and executed. The goal is to identify and prevent potential large-scale damage events.

The tasks include creating and updating hazard response plans and precautionary measures to ensure the supply of the population within the framework of civil defense and protection. Additionally, it involves setting up and training disaster relief units, supporting organizations involved in disaster relief, and informing citizens about the activities of this department.
 
Central Breathing Apparatus Workshop/Hose Maintenance

• Inspection, maintenance, and repair of breathing apparatus used by municipal fire departments
• Repair, cleaning, and maintenance of fire hoses

 
The Oberbergischer Kreis operates a breathing apparatus workshop that inspects, maintains, and repairs all firefighting equipment related to breathing protection. Additionally, it provides a washing and drying facility for fire hoses, where they are also inspected, maintained, and repaired.

Our Performance in Numbers

Across an area of 918.5 km², there are currently eleven rescue stations and five emergency doctor locations handling approximately 60,000 emergency calls per year. These locations ensure emergency services for the population of the Oberbergischer Kreis, as well as parts of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, and the Märkischer Kreis in the towns of Much, Ruppichteroth, Windeck, Overath, Kürten, Rönsahl, and Kierspe, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Thus, the emergency service of the Oberbergischer Kreis is responsible for the emergency medical care of well over 300,000 people.
